What does CNA reciprocity mean?

States use the terms reciprocity, endorsement and transfer to describe how they review nurse aide credentials from another state. Each state defines its own process, so use the term your new state uses. Approval is not automatic. The destination state decides whether your training, testing, work history and registry status meet its rules.

A nurse aide registry is an official state list used to check nurse aide status. A competency evaluation is the state-approved nurse aide exam. Its format varies by state. This guide explains the published instructions, but the agency decides whether you qualify.

How do you become a CNA in Alaska?

The Board of Nursing makes nurse aide certification decisions and publishes the approved program list.

  • The registry links Credentia for nurse aide testing.
  • The examination route is for uncertified applicants who completed a state-approved program within two years; apply through MY LICENSE or the linked examination application.

What if you previously held a nurse aide credential in Alaska?

If you held an Alaska certification before, use renewal or reinstatement, not this application. The Division's page and reinstatement form cover certifications lapsed more than 12 months but less than five years, while the regulation (12 AAC 44.820) also allows reinstatement after a shorter lapse. After five years or more, you must complete a state-approved training program and reapply. Ask the Division which form fits your lapse.[1] [4] [5]

Who sends registry verification?

Use 08-4070c for the initial and current certifying registries; those agencies return verification directly.[2]

What exceptions apply?

No current certificate

A program completed within two years may lead to examination instead of endorsement.[2]

Non-English foreign education

The application packet specifies additional English-proficiency evidence; follow its instructions.[2]

What fees does the state publish?
