What does CNA reciprocity mean?

States use the terms reciprocity, endorsement and transfer to describe how they review nurse aide credentials from another state. Each state defines its own process, so use the term your new state uses. Approval is not automatic. The destination state decides whether your training, testing, work history and registry status meet its rules.

A nurse aide registry is an official state list used to check nurse aide status. A competency evaluation is the state-approved nurse aide exam. Its format varies by state. This guide explains the published instructions, but the agency decides whether you qualify.

How do you become a CNA in Nevada?

Nevada's CNA training program must be 75 hours of instruction, with at least 60 hours of theory and skills practice in a lab (NRS 632.2856). If you fail the exam three times, you must repeat the training program.

  • The Board’s education page directs CNA written and clinical-skills testing to Headmaster.
  • Apply through the Nevada Nurse Portal, provide training completion or approved nursing-fundamentals evidence, pass clinical and knowledge examinations, and complete Board fingerprint requirements.

What if you previously held a nurse aide credential in Nevada?

Prior destination credentials require agency confirmation; a new interstate application is not assumed to replace renewal or reinstatement.

Who sends registry verification?

The current sheet says the Board obtains expiration information from endorsement verification when the active certificate lacks an expiration date. Original-state forms are not assumed to be universally required.[2]

What exceptions apply?

No additional exception is listed in the reviewed sources.

What fees does the state publish?

What should you confirm with the agency?

  • The current September 2026 instructions do not use the 2019 eight-hour threshold. Confirm the current work requirement with the Board.

The state decides eligibility and approval. This guide does not grant a credential.
