What does CNA reciprocity mean?

States use the terms reciprocity, endorsement and transfer to describe how they review nurse aide credentials from another state. Each state defines its own process, so use the term your new state uses. Approval is not automatic. The destination state decides whether your training, testing, work history and registry status meet its rules.

A nurse aide registry is an official state list used to check nurse aide status. A competency evaluation is the state-approved nurse aide exam. Its format varies by state. This guide explains the published instructions, but the agency decides whether you qualify.

How do you become a CNA in Wyoming?

Health Department HLS oversees CNA education programs; WSBN issues CNA certification.

  • WSBN directs CNA knowledge/skills testing resources to Headmaster and Wyoming TMU.
  • Complete approved CNA training/competency evaluation, apply with fees and fingerprint/background evidence, and pass the approved national examination under the Board’s CNA checklist.

Which pathway applies to you?

CNA certification by endorsement

CNAs with an active certificate in another jurisdiction

  • Provide approved training/competency-program evidence, active other-state certificate verification, original certification-by-exam verification, application, fees and fingerprint cards.[3]
  • During the preceding two years, meet one competency option: 400 CNA employment hours, 40 continuing-education hours, or a passing NATCEP/similar national exam.[3]

What if you previously held a nurse aide credential in Wyoming?

Failure to renew uses recertification under section 10; Board-granted inactive status uses reactivation under section 12. Both require application, fingerprint/background-check requirements and section 14 competency. Disciplinary reinstatement is separate.[3]

Who sends registry verification?

The checklist calls for a verification form of your active certificate from the original state. It says all documents must come to WSBN from the board, certifying institution or college.[2]

What exceptions apply?

Unable to provide satisfactory education, training or competency verification

Chapter 2 section 4(a) directs the applicant to meet certification-by-examination requirements.[3]

What else should you know?

The current fee rule separates a $60 endorsement fee from a $60 DCI check. The checklist’s $120 total matches those two listed charges.[2] [4]

The October–December 2026 waiver in the fee rule applies to renewal-related provisions; it does not waive the CNA endorsement application fee.[4]

What fees does the state publish?

Published fee details. This is not a total cost.
Wyoming CNA transfer fees

CNA certification by endorsement: CNA endorsement application$60[4]
CNA certification by endorsement: DCI background check$60, making the listed application plus DCI charges $120; credit-card processing and fingerprint-provider charges may be additional.[4] [2] [1]

What should you confirm with the agency?

  • Confirm temporary permit issuance and portal-only fields with the Board.
  • Fingerprint-provider and payment-processor charges vary; confirm them before paying.

The state decides eligibility and approval. This guide does not grant a credential.
